Last year I had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of Nicholas Rayne, son of Sir Edward Rayne, from the well-known London shoe company, Rayne Shoes. Nick found our etsy shop while searching for Rayne shoe ads to replace the family ones destroyed by a fire. We've been able to reunite him with quite a number of vintage ads these past few months.
Rayne Shoes, which was founded in 1885, was located on Bond Street in London until 1987, and held the royal warrant to make shoes for the royal family, including Princess Diana. Granted the Royal Warrant by the Queen Mother, Rayne designed the ivory silk shoes embroidered with seed pearls for Princess Elizabeth to wear at her wedding in 1947. Rayne also made shoes for actresses in their movie roles, such as Vivian Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor, and Diana Rigg in her television role on The Avengers.
Here are some examples of the beauty of Rayne Shoes:
You can see an interview with Nick regarding the making of the gorgeous wedding shoes for Queen Elizabeth on the following video.
