Valentine Red!
This is my FAVOURITE ad in our newly rebranded ebay shop, Haute Couture Fashion Ads.
If you're interested in fashions from the 90s until present day, stop by the shop. These are the ads we can't list in our etsy shop, Paper Doll Girls, because they aren't 20 years old yet!

Ooh-La-la Forties Lingerie
I've just spent time today listing some gorgeous lingerie ads from a 1946 Harpers Bazaar magazine. I've always loved illustrations used in these older issues much more than photographs. The artwork is beautiful!

Our New Shop - Haute Couture Fashion Ads
We have had our Paper Doll Girls etsy shop for well over a year now and have collected hundreds of ads that we aren't able to list there because they don't meet the criteria of vintage--they are less than 20 years old.
We decided to rebrand the ebay shop we have had since 2003, and start using it again as a venue for all the beautiful French, UK, US, and Australian ads we are unable to offer in Paper Doll Girls. These ads date from 1992 to the present. You can find them in our newly re-launched ebay shop, Haute Couture Fashion Ads.
We've just started listing in the shop, so please stop by from time to time and see what we have on offer. Here are a few of what you'll find in there now:
Enjoy!

La Femme Chez Elle
Amongst the vintage fashion magazine ads that I brought back from Paris, I found some lovely illustrations by four well-known Art Deco illustrators of the 1930s.
Perhaps the most iconic of these illustrators was Paul Iribe,
Perhaps the most iconic of these illustrators was Paul Iribe,
who was part of a Parisian, bohemian clique, a cosmopolitan mix of personalities from the world of the arts and elite society. One notable member was the couturier, Coco Chanel. Iribe’s involvement with Chanel was particularly intense. Chanel found Iribe’s provocative wit and professional drive matched her own. Theirs was a romantic liaison, and a bond of like souls.

The reverse side of this listing is an illustration by Andre Edouard Marty. He was the quintessential Parisian artist: he was born in that city in 1882, died there in 1974, and through his long and productive 92 years he touched upon virtually every major art form with the exception of sculpture. He was only one of four artists to contribute to every year of the elite pochoir fashion publication Gazette du Bon Ton (1912 to 1925). In addition he was much sought after as an illustrator for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Le Sourire, Fémina, Modes et Manières d’Aujord’hui and many other popular fashion and lifestyle publications.

George Lapape was also the quintessential Parisian artist. At age 20 Lepape had already formed strong liaisons with such notable artists as Georges Braque, Marie Laurencin, Bernard Boutet de Monval, Andre Marty and Charles Martin. By 1920 Lepape was at the very top of his profession. He had completed a prolific decade of work, including illustrations for the houses of Worth, Lanvin, Paquin, Doucet, Beer among others, cover work for Harpers Bazaar and the first cover for Vogue Magazine (Oct.1916, English edition), numerous commissions for fur, perfume and other luxury goods producers, illustrations for theatre programs (particularly for the Ballets Russes), costume and set designs for Marcel L’Herbier and a series of posters for Galeries Lafayette.
Conde Nast invited Lepape to New York in 1926, further cementing a long and profitable relationship with Vogue as that publication took over Gazette du Bon Ton. He illustrated eight of the Vogue covers in 1927 plus covers for Vanity Fair, while continuing to expand his client list to include Hermes, Wanamaker’s Department Store and Femina Magazine, among others, and to further increase his visibility in the theatrical world.

The reverse side of the page is an illustration by Mariette Lydis. Mariette, Comtesse Govone, lived an extraordinary life of adventure. She had a great artistic success in 30s Paris, starting with a solo show at the Galerie Bernheim Jeune, after which she became a member and a juror at the Salon d’Automne. Her work is in many major museums and collections worldwide.

Oh, how times have changed......
I brought home several hundred vintage magazine ads from Paris and found the following two Regie Francaise ads to be interesting. They are from an extra large-size magazine named "L'Illustration" published in the 1930s in Paris.
Cigarette and cigar advertising is no longer "glamorous", but the girl in the 1935 illustration really just screams 1930s Art Deco glamour! I really love the graphics on this ad. The other one from 1934 features two children offering cigarettes and cigars as GIFTS. Things have DEFINITELY changed! But, both of these ads can now just be appreciated for the loveliness of their artwork.

Rayne Shoes - Bond Street, London
Last year I had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of Nicholas Rayne, son of Sir Edward Rayne, from the well-known London shoe company, Rayne Shoes. Nick found our etsy shop while searching for Rayne shoe ads to replace the family ones destroyed by a fire. We've been able to reunite him with quite a number of vintage ads these past few months.
Rayne Shoes, which was founded in 1885, was located on Bond Street in London until 1987, and held the royal warrant to make shoes for the royal family, including Princess Diana. Granted the Royal Warrant by the Queen Mother, Rayne designed the ivory silk shoes embroidered with seed pearls for Princess Elizabeth to wear at her wedding in 1947. Rayne also made shoes for actresses in their movie roles, such as Vivian Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor, and Diana Rigg in her television role on The Avengers.
Here are some examples of the beauty of Rayne Shoes:
You can see an interview with Nick regarding the making of the gorgeous wedding shoes for Queen Elizabeth on the following video.
If you'd like to read more about the history of Rayne shoes, have a visit to their website.

Perfume Shrine: Shalimar by Guerlain: Review and History Info for an Iconic Oriental
While doing some research for a perfume ad I brought home from Paris, I ran across this review/history of the perfume, Shalimar, by Guerlain, that I have worn for 40+ years. I still remember the first magical moment I removed the glass stopper on a bottle my father had given to my mother when I was probably about six or seven years old. I thought it was the most beautiful thing I had ever smelled....and I still do all these years later!

Madeleine de Rauch by Darani
I was lucky enough to find a copy of the French magazine, L'Officiel de la Couture et de la Mode de Paris, from 1949, which contains the very collectible ad illustrated by Darani. The ad features a bright yellow wool coat and black and white wool windowpane checked trousers designed by Madeleine de Rauch, a Paris couturier, working from 1932 to 1973, who was known for her sporty day looks.
The ad is very collectible as it has been featured on page 161 of the exceptional reference book of fashion illustrators entitled, "100 Years of Fashion Illustration", which is an invaluable addition to any reference library.

The ad has a very modern look even though it is was done 63 years ago! At this time, trousers were just becoming part of couture for weekend wear. Hard to believe, isn't it, since women were them on a daily basis now?

Sailor Girl...
I've finally gotten through the scanning and watermarking of the ads I brought home from Paris and have listed the following cover from the July 22, 1933, issue of the French magazine, Le Miroir du Monde. It's so ART DECO! I think she's absolutely gorgeous.

Nelly de Grab
I recently received a request from a lovely Esty seller, Stephanie from Vancouver, of True Value Vintage, asking if she could include one of my ads in her listing. I was delighted to see one of my ads "come to life"!
She has a Nelly de Grab skirt for sale in her shop and I had an ad for the same skirt! Please check it out in her shop listing http://www.etsy.com/listing/87961642/early-1950s-nelly-de-grab-florentine to see the beautiful Florentine black lace overlaying pink taffeta.
