Madeleine de Rauch by Darani
I was lucky enough to find a copy of the French magazine, L'Officiel de la Couture et de la Mode de Paris, from 1949, which contains the very collectible ad illustrated by Darani. The ad features a bright yellow wool coat and black and white wool windowpane checked trousers designed by Madeleine de Rauch, a Paris couturier, working from 1932 to 1973, who was known for her sporty day looks.
The ad is very collectible as it has been featured on page 161 of the exceptional reference book of fashion illustrators entitled, "100 Years of Fashion Illustration", which is an invaluable addition to any reference library.

Paper Doll Girls Etsy Listing #90044120
The ad has a very modern look even though it is was done 63 years ago! At this time, trousers were just becoming part of couture for weekend wear. Hard to believe, isn't it, since women were them on a daily basis now?

Forties Fashion
I just wanted to share with you a fabulous book I have recently added to my reference library. I feel really lucky that the university where I work has a College of Fine Arts and, therefore, our bookstore has a very good selection of books about fashion.
This 208-page softcover book is entitled, Forties Fashion From Siren Suits to the New Look, and it's published by Thames & Hudson. (ISBN number is 978-0-500-28897-9). It has 250 illustrations, 196 of which are in glorious color. It's just chock full of the history of clothing during and after the war years, some of which I had never read anywhere before.
So, if you're a Forties kind of gal, treat yourself to this one! It's an excellent source of images and information.
The front cover shows a group of French women in 1945 who were sporting dyed hair for the first time since the War began.
